It’s no secret we live in a digital age, one where information spreads rapidly and public perception can make or break your reputation. For this reason, being well-prepared as a spokesperson for your organization is crucial to putting your best foot forward and avoiding common pitfalls.
At Slide Nine, our media training is an interactive workshop where subject matter experts have the opportunity to learn how a newsroom works, how best to work with a reporter and what makes a story newsworthy. Through this experience, they gain a better appreciation of their role as storytellers. The training creates a safe space for leaders to practice speaking publicly about their organization and get comfortable interacting with the media before they go out into the field.
We take the time to understand our clients’ businesses and the landscapes of their industries so we can customize the training to best suit their unique needs. As part of the workshop, we lead a tailored messaging framework exercise to help participants align on key pillars so their full team is grounded in a succinct and uniform way of talking about their organization.
Our favorite part of media training is when we put participants’ learning to the test with on-camera mock interviews. By providing real-time feedback, we help them build their confidence while also mitigating any potential issues by sharing tricks and tips on how to respond to different scenarios.
Oftentimes, we wrap up the training with a Q&A session with a real reporter. Leveraging our relationships with the local media, we give participants the opportunity to ask questions or discuss story ideas to get a sense of what it’s like to work with real journalists. By the end of the session, participants walk away with a solid understanding of how the media operates and feel equipped to handle future opportunities with ease.
